Autism Spectrum Disorder is a neurological condition affecting approximately 1 in 44 children and is marked by social and communication difficulties as well as fixed interests or repetitive behaviors. Autism presents as a broad spectrum of symptoms – for some the communication challenges can be very evident (limited language, avoiding eye contact) and the repetitive behaviors can be distracting or even harmful to themselves; for others Autism can be an almost invisible diagnosis, creating challenges for individuals relating to others or forming friendships. As a result it can sometimes be difficult to diagnose Autism accurately. In addition, individuals sometimes have a hard time finding clinical practitioners who can do the appropriate assessments to make a diagnosis, or find themselves on long wait lists for such providers.

We are excited to announce that we will now offer diagnostic screenings for Autism Spectrum Disorder here at Philadelphia Integrative Psychiatry. We are trained to administer the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, or ADOS, which is widely considered the gold standard in diagnosing ASD in children, youth and adults. It is an observation based assessment which means our clinician spend time interacting directly with the individual to get a full picture of their symptoms which may be related to Autism. Paired with other standardized Autism assessments such as the Gilliam Autism Rating Scale (GARS) or Autism Spectrum Rating Scale (ASRS), our screening will not only provide you with answers regarding a diagnosis but also recommendations for next steps. Our package includes detailed reporting and a follow-up session to discuss results and treatment options.
